1) Make sure the perforated bowl of the strainer covers the sinkhole completely It may seem like an obvious statement, but you’ll be amazed how many people use tiny, 2 inch diameter sink strainers in their sinks, and expect it to protect the sinkhole from food. Kitchen sinks are designed to deal with lots of water draining through it, so the sinkhole tends to be larger than what you will find in bathroom sinks.
Baths and showers also need to deal with lots of water. Our sink strainers are a large 4.5” in diameter, with a 2.75” perforated bowl area. This is likely to cover even large sinkholes completely, so no food particles, hair or soap scum can enter the drain.
2) Ensure the reinforced rim sits around the sinkhole so it anchors itself and does not move around Sometimes even the newest of strainers will let food enter the drain accidentally as they move away from the sink hole due to rushing water from a tap.
Make sure you have positioned your sink strainer so the perforated bowl is inside the sinkhole and the reinforced rim is sat outside evenly all the way around. Test it by turning on a tap and letting lots of water rush into the sink.
