    Instructions

    Your Chef Remi Herb Scissors will become the only tool you need for herb preparation in your kitchen:

    1) Make sure your herbs are semi-dry to dry. Wet herbs are difficult to handle at any time, especially when you have soft leaves, such as cilantro. A great tip is to wash herbs and then leave them to dry for a while before attempting to cut. Or, if you don’t have lots of time, use a salad spinner to wring out as much moisture as possible

    2) Bunch up leaves before cutting Bunched up leaves give the blades something more firm to work on, and you get the most herbs cut in the shortest amount of time. Also, bunching up leaves allow you to bruise them slightly. You want to bruise herbs so that the oils can come out and add more flavor to your dish.

    3) Bring the blades together completely with each snip Make sure you compress the handles until they come together for each snip you make, so you ensure the blades have cut through completely – you don’t want large pieces of herbs left over. Our herb scissors have handles made from thermoplastic rubber which are incredibly comfortable, so you’ll have no problems compressing the handles completely.

    Q: Could you cut lettuce up with these scissors?

    A: Absolutely. You can use these scissors to create perfect little ‘gourmet’ strips of lettuce, kale and other salad greens – much easier than using a knife!

    Q: Can this cut vegetables?

    A: Yes. We recommend that you cut soft vegetables with these scissors, such as mushrooms, onions etc. For hard vegetables, such as potatoes, carrots etc, we recommend using a kitchen knife, such as the Chef Remi Chef’s Knife, or the Chef Remi Paring Knife.

    Q: What are the blades made from?

    A: All 5 blades are made from ultra-sharp, food-grade stainless steel, with high amounts of chromium to withstand rusting and corrosion, even after several years of heavy duty usage.

    Q: Do the scissor blades come apart for cleaning?

    A: No, these scissors do not come apart, and there really is no need. The blades are very easily cleaned by rinsing with detergent and water. Plus we include a cleaning comb which can get in between all the blades and remove any stuck bits of herb.

    Q: Are they dishwasher safe?

    A: Our herb scissors can be washed in a dishwasher, just like most knives. But we don’t recommend this. With any type of blade, dishwashers speed up blunting, which means you will need to sharpen your blades earlier. We recommend you hand rinse with detergent and water. If you really need to thoroughly disinfect, mix up a solution of vinegar and water, and rinse the blades thoroughly with this solution.

    Q: Do these scissors come with a cover/sheath?

    A: No, these do not come with a sheath as they don’t need too much protection from the environment. We do, however, recommend that they are kept separate to other blades, so as not to cause premature blunting. Many of our customers hang up their scissors on a hook, or store them on the Chef Remi Magnetic Knife Holder.

    Q: Do they rust?

    A: Our herb scissors simply cannot rust as they are made from 100% food-grade stainless steel. Stainless steel has chromium added to it which stops the steel from rusting. You will get many years of use out of our scissors without rusting issues. We back this up with our Lifetime Guarantee!

    Q: Do the handles have some sort of rubber or soft grip on them? I’m allergic to latex. No. The handles are ergonomic and very comfortable, but they are made from solid, antimicrobial plastic that will not cause any reaction.

    Q: Can these be sharpened when they dull?

    A: Yes. You can sharpen the blades using a knife sharpener. We recommend using the fine grinder slot of the Chef Remi Knife Sharpener (link to product when live on Shopify site). Please be aware, however, that we have designed the blades to withstand blunting, so sharpening regularly is not required.

    Q: Does the metal run all the way through the handles? I'm worried about the handles breaking. Are the handles durable?

    A: Scissors that have blades that go through the handles can be uncomfortable to cut with, especially on any tough woody herbs, such as rosemary or thyme. For comfort, the handles need to have some ‘give’. Despite this, our herb scissors are tough and built for a lifetime of use. We back this up with our Lifetime Guarantee!

    This is my second of this particular brush. I like the first one very much and it lasted through many cleanings. It was also very strong. I have broken some lesser made brushes. My only complaint is that the first one had a hook on it that I could hang in a specific spot on the grill. I ordered this one specifically because I though it would have the hook on the end like it predecessor. Alas, it didn't. We drilled the end and installed a hook ourselves. I would have given it 5 stars had it come with the hook attached. I would suggest not removing the hook for future orders. (It still shows in the picture on the website)
