What screams British aside from rain and Big Ben than fish and chips yeah? My first love affair with authentic, British fish and chips started back in my childhood when my father would take me to visit my granddad in Britain. And every weekend, the two would drag me to the stadium to watch a good 90 minutes of footy. And if in America, hot dog is king, in Britain it’s fish and chips.
I had fond memories of those weekends. Me munching on fish and chips while watching my dad and his dad throw insults at the visiting club. Yeah, they were really passionate football fans.
Anyway, this love for the beautiful game has been passed to me. And anytime my favorite football club has a match, (*Chants: Cause we’re Arsenaaaaal! Arsenal FC! We’re by far the greatest team, the world has ever seen!) you will find me glued to the TV screen of on my laptop. Screaming my lungs off, and enjoying a good serving of fish and chips.

How to make your Traditional fish and chips with tartar sauce
Fish Fry:
Go get a fryer and fill it with as much vegetable oil as it can handle.
Preheat the fryer to 350°F.
Get a large resealable plastic bag and put in 3 cups of wheat cereal. Crush the cereals into crumbs and set aside.
Now get a shallow bowl and combine your ranch dressing mix, flour and salt.
Get your fish, put them inside the plastic bag, and shake the bag in order to coat the fish with the mixture.
Now get your fish and dip them into the beaten eggs and then roll them over the crushed cereals.
Carefully add 3 to 4 pieces in fryer and cook until golden brown and crisp. Repeat with remaining fillets.
Once coated thoroughly, throw them into the fryer and cook till they become crisp and golden brown.
Serve with tartar sauce.
For the Tartar Sauce:
Take a small dish and strain the relish of any juices.
In another small bowl, combine the strained relish with lemon juice mustard and mayonnaise.
Stir thoroughly until everything is mixed.
Add salt and pepper to taste.

Mm, this looks delicious! I’ve always had a particular love for fish n chips (coming from the California coast), but I haven’t had the chance to eat out in a while, so this looks like a great recipe for me to try! (I don’t think I’ve ever seen a recipe for fish n chips with garlic ranch dressing before! Yum!)

This looks like a great recipe! I’m glad this recipe comes with tartar sauce. I first tried fish and chips when I studied abroad in England. I’ve always enjoyed fish and chips with a beer.

So I officially need to get a fryer! I’ve always wanted to learn how to make fish and chips. It is one of my boyfriends favs. I’m very surprised at how easy the tartar sauce is, I’ve never been a huge fan of store bought. Totally going to try this out at some point.
But I must ask, does any one know any alternatives to buying a fryer for this? Can I heat oil in a pot and use a thermometer to measure the temperature instead?
