Homemade cherry pie! I still remember the smell of my grandma’s kitchen when she was cooking this pie. And this is the recipe she would use. Back then, she would spend hours making the pie crust, and she’d also need to pit cherries.
To make life easier, there’s lots of frozen cherry pies in food stores, but I’ve yet to find even one that tasted homemade. And don’t even bother looking at the ingredients label – the strange stuff in those pies will scare you.
So, I set out to make my Grandma’s cherry pie, but make it fast. I simply don’t have 2 hours to devote to making pie. Thankfully, I found the answer in these fantastic Arrowhead Mills Organic Graham Cracker Pie Crusts.
Completely organic with no additives, these crusts taste as good as my Grandma’s….without the rolling and kneading! And I’ve also found this great little farmer’s market near me who sell pitted cherries, so my little fingers don’t have to do the work!
Your Ingredients:
1 cup of sugar (use 1 ¼ cups if using sour cherries)
4 cups of pitted cherries
½ tsp of cinnamon
¼ cup of flour
1 tbsp of milk
1 tsp of sugar (for sprinkling)
Arrowhead Mills Organic Graham Cracker Pie Crusts (2)
How to make your Real Cherry Pie
Place the sugar, cinnamon and flour into a food bag. Now add the cherries in and toss in the bag. This works better than using a bowl for mixing as you can end up squashing the cherries too much. This method keeps the cherries firm.
Place the bottom pie crust into a pie pan and pour in the cherry filling.
Place the top crust over the filling, and then flute the edges and cut slits to create vents in the top crust.
Brush the pie with milk and then sprinkle some sugar on top.
Bake for 25 minutes at around 425°F, then reduce to about 350°F and bake for a further 30 minutes.
Let your family devour!
Mom’s Secret Tip:
Using pre-made crusts cuts most of the time needed to create pies. Just make sure you organic pie crusts to avoid additives, and have several stored in freezer to makes pies in minutes.

Great pie crust brand suggestion. It’s great to see organic products like this getting the attention they deserve. The recipe overall is pretty unique too, considering that seems more cake-like than your average pie (in a good way).

This was really good. I took the advice of some other people and added the cherries while the pot was still on the heat for a few minutes. Unfortunately, I think that was a bad idea because there was not enough juice. In the future I will simply add the cherries after removing from the heat as indicated in the recipe."
