How To Clean Your Chef Remi BBQ Grill Mat
If you haven’t caught on to the grill mats craze, then where have you been??
Grill mats are the ultimate BBQ accessory. Everyone loves a BBQ, but NO ONE like clean up.
Scrubbing grill grates clean is a chore that no one looks forward to.
Add a grill mat on top, and you can add whatever sauces and marinades you want, safe in the knowledge nothing is touching your grates and getting burnt on.
Then there’s the added factor of never losing food between grates (very annoying, and a waste of good, delicious food!)
And you don’t even have to worry about foods not getting those authentic grill marks.
The Chef Remi Grill Mat is tough enough to withstand high grill temperatures, but thin enough to allow the hot grates to sear your foods.
Our mats have even inspired many people to add foods to their grill that they’ve never contemplated before.
Every fried an egg on a grill? How about sautéing chopped vegetables? Or making pancakes?
All completely impossible on normal grates, but completely possible on our grill mats.
But sauces, marinades, pancake batter, egg ……they may not be messing up your grill, but they are certainly making a sticky mess on your grill mats.
In a lot of cases, a simple wipe over with a damp cloth will do the trick (and you can then lay it flat onto the top rack of a dishwasher).
But if you’ve managed to burn on foods, you may need to take more action.
So, we’ve put together a handy, step-by-step guide to cleaning your grill mats after heavy use:
1) Place your grill mat in a sink and blast it with warm, running water.
If your tap has high pressure, you will find most of the food debris will be dislodged.
2) Fill up the sink with warm water and detergent (no abrasive liquids) and submerge your grill mat in it.
If you have stubborn food residue on your mat, leave it in there to soak for 5-10 minutes before you move on to step 3.
3) Rub the food residue off the mat using a sponge, soft cloth or just fingers.
Use an even, circular motion to gently remove food reside.
If you have very burnt foods on your mat, you could use a soft scrub pad, or a washing up brush with soft bristles, but be careful as you don’t want to scrub off the PTFE coating (which is what makes your grill mats non-stick).
NEVER use scratch pads, or anything with wire wool. These will certainly scratch off the coating and render your grill mats useless.
4) Place flat on the top rack of a dishwasher
This step is not always necessary, particularly if you’ve rubbed off all the food residue thoroughly, but it doesn’t hurt to be extra thorough.
We offer a lifetime guarantee on our grill mats, but use our tips to keep them clean, and you won’t need the guarantee – they’ll last forever!
