Chocolate Avocado Mousse That Kids Actually Love
We’ve had a big response to our recent posts on the never-ending battle to get our kids to eat more fruit and vegetables.
We’ve given you six ways to get your children to eat fruit and vegetables, and then we added six more ways to get your children to eat fruit and vegetables.
Avocado really is one of the few foods out there that lives up to its claim of being a ‘super food’.
But when many adults can’t stand the taste and creaminess of a ripe avocado, how do we get out children to love this nutrient dense food?
We have a trick up our sleeves!
There’s been rumors of avocado and chocolate being an amazing combination for years. But these claims are usually touted by various ‘healthy’ websites, or vegan websites.
What might seem delicious to them may not be so delicious to our children!
Worry not! We’ve created a chocolate avocado mousse recipe that may be good for your children, but they’ll devour it like it’s made of Oreos!
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 0
Total time: 10 minutes
Servings: 4
Your ingredients:
- 2 ripe avocados
- 1/2 cup of chocolate chips
- 1 teaspoon of white sugar (adjust depending on how sweet your tooth is!)
- 1/8 teaspoon of salt
- 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup of milk (use less if you want a thicker mousse)
How to make your Chocolate Avocado Mousse
- Use an avocado slicer to halve, pit and scoop the flesh of the avocados, and place into a blender. Don’t blend yet!
- Place the chocolate chips onto a metal bowl, and then place this onto a pan of boiling water.
- Heat until the chips have melted completely, and then add this to the avocado flesh in the blender.
- Add the sugar, salt, vanilla extract to the blender. Now add some of the milk and blend. You must use a blender as mashing manually will leave lumps, and children HATE these lumps!
- Add more milk if the mousse is too thick for you and blend till you get a smooth consistency.
- Divide into 4 portions and serve!

Mmmm, this sounds interesting, I have never tried chocolate avocado mousse before, even though I am not a big fan of avocados, because they make my damn throat too damn itchy. Anyways, once again thanks for sharing.

I love that there is finally a kids recipe for kids with avocado. I love healthy foods and avocado is hard for me and the kids to enjoy. I love that there are so few ingredients and that it takes just 10 minutes to make. The four servings is even perfect for my little family!

Wow I’m gonna have to try this for me and my little sister soon. It’s starting to get boring having the same thing for dessert over and over, so this will be a good change, and she will at least eat something with a healthy food in it for once!

Wow, I would never have thought of combining avocado with chocolate! The recipe seems fairly simple.
I look forward to trying it out on the grandkids. They love chocolate. Of course I won’t mention the avocado to them :)

First let me say, I dislike avocado. Anything avocado I would never try and the thought of combining it with my all time favorite thing, chocolate…. I immediately tensed up. lol But, I started thinking about it and decided to try it. I was surprised that I couldn’t even taste the avocado. This is a great recipe to get your little ones to eat green veggies!

I have to say, using avocado in a dessert recipe is totally new to me, and it’s just bizarre enough to make me want to try it. I can see how the creaminess of the avocado could work well in desserts. I have attempted most of the trendy vegetable desserts, but I’m glad to have found a fast, no-cooking-required kind of recipe. Easy enough that I could probably test this out on my sweet tooth today, but I don’t have an avocado slicer. Any ideas/suggestions on what I could use instead? Would it be possible to just make-do with a knife and fork? Can’t wait to try this! I will have to post what the results are once I get to try it.

This sounds amazing, even as an adult who does not care for avocados. I will definitely be trying this with my kids as they love any type of moussey dessert treat normally! Better when I can add in something healthy without them knowing!

This looks really tasty. My daughter is not a big fan of avocados normally but mixed with chocolate should win her over. Even my picky husband would gobble this up in a heartbeat.

Oh wow! I’m definitely going to have to try this. I have never tried chocolate combined with avocado, but I have seen it in a lot of recipes lately. It looks delicious in the picture.
