Perfect Cheese Burgers with Avocado Relish
It’s National Cheese Burger Day! I have an 11 year old daughter who, typically, loves fast food. I’m doing my best keeping her away from regular visits to McDonalds!
But I’m a big believer that all fast foods are not the same. A homemade version can be much healthier, and tastier!
This is my favorite cheese burger recipe. And my daughter genuinely believes they are better than McDonalds!
Preparation time: 15 mins
Cooking time: 15 mins
Total time: 1/2 hour
Servings: 8
Your Ingredients:
- 16 avocados
- 4 onions
- 8 jalapenos
- 8 limes
- 2 cups of cilantro
- 3 pounds of lean ground beef chuck
- Canola oil
- Salt
- Pepper
- Slices of Monterey Jack cheese
- 8 round rolls / buns
- Lettuce leaves
- Condiments of your choice
How To Make Your Perfect Cheese Burgers with Avocado Relish
- Peel, deseed and chop the avocados. Use the Chef Remi Avocado Slicer with Knife. It allows you to split, slice and scoop your avocado safely and effectively.
- Dice the onions, mince the jalapeno, and roughly chop the cilantro using a precise paring knife and wooden cutting board.
- Juice the limes and place into bowl, along with the onions, jalapeno, cilantro and avocado. Mix well and season with salt and pepper. Set aside your avocado relish.
- Divide the ground beef chuck into 8 equal portions. Now, use a non-stick burger press to make perfectly even patties (much faster than using your hands, and eliminates the chance of you overworking the meat, which drives out juices and creates tough, dry burgers).
- Make a depression in the center of each patty with your thumb. This stops the burger from bulging when cooked as the indent will rise.
- Place a BBQ grill mat onto your grill or outdoor grill, and heat to a medium heat. Brush each patty with canola oil, and season with salt and pepper.
- Place the patties onto the BBQ grill mat. This will stop them sticking to the grill grates.
- Grill for about 7 minutes till golden brown for medium to rare patties, turning just once using a solid spatula. Adjust cooking times if your preference is rare, medium or well done. Do not press down with the spatula!
- Top each patty with a cheese slice for the last minute of cooking.
- To serve, split each roll and place a cheese-topped patty inside. Top with avocado relish and add lettuce. Add any condiments you want. Enjoy!

Chef Remi Recommends
The Chef Remi Non-stick Burger Press allows you to make perfectly even burgers, every time.
Homemade burgers can be difficult to make by hand. If the burger mixture is not compressed properly, the patties can fall apart on the grill. But overworking the burger mixture, to ensure the patties stay together, can cause you to drive out meat juices, leaving you with dry, tasteless burgers.
Our burger press will compress burger mixture just enough so it will hold its shape when grilling, whilst not losing a drop of its juiciness. Plus the nonstick coating means patties will drop out without fuss!
