How To Make Christmas Pumpkin Pie

Warm, sweet pumpkin pie is a real favorite for many families at Christmas – it certainly is mine!

I’ve found away to add extra texture to pumpkin pie that always makes everyone remember my pie over everybody else’s.

The secret? Take a small handful of chopped pecans and add it to the pie crust dough, AND make a streusel (crumbly) topping!

Not feeling confident about making your own pie crust? Not to worry. Just follow my step by step instructional video, and remember to add 1/4 cup of finely chopped pecans to the flour before mixing.

And then follow the recipe below!

Preparation time: 10mins

Cooking time: 55mins

Total time: 1 hour 5 mins

Servings: 8

Ingredients:
  • 1 (9 inch) unbaked homemade pie crust (watch how to make here)
  • 1/2 cup of chopped pecans
  • 3 2/3 cups of pumpkin puree
  • 1 egg
  • 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup of packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup of all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup of butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
Directions:
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F.
  1. Make your own pie crust, and add 1/4 cup of your chopped pecans to the flour before mixing.
  1. In a large mixing bowl, blend together the egg, condensed milk and pumpkin puree using a flexible spatula. Pour the mixture into the unbaked pie crust.

  1. Measure out your sugar and flour using Chef Remi Measuring Cups.

  1. Place the flour and sugar into a large mixing bowl and mix together. Add the remaining 1/4 cup of chopped pecans, the butter and cinnamon, and mix using a dinner fork until crumbly. This is your streusel.
  1. Sprinkle the streusel on top of the pumpkin mixture in the pie crust. Place into the oven and bake for 50-55 minutes.
  1. Allow the pie to cool before serving.

This is my second of this particular brush. I like the first one very much and it lasted through many cleanings. It was also very strong. I have broken some lesser made brushes. My only complaint is that the first one had a hook on it that I could hang in a specific spot on the grill. I ordered this one specifically because I though it would have the hook on the end like it predecessor. Alas, it didn't. We drilled the end and installed a hook ourselves. I would have given it 5 stars had it come with the hook attached. I would suggest not removing the hook for future orders. (It still shows in the picture on the website)
